Ibidem is a solo exhibition by víctor yáñez-lazcano. The project centers around a durational performance that will take place for the entirety of the exhibition. This performance occurs inside a room within a room that will be activated by yáñez-lazcano and BIPOC guest performance artists. The exhibition also features a series of minimal photographic assemblages titled the sky is falling comprised of discarded images whose primary content has been removed leaving behind a collection of disparate skies. The work emerged from yáñez-lazcano growing awareness of the direct impacts social conditioning had on his self-advocacy and his experiences with intimacy.
yáñez-lazcano’s interdisciplinary research chronicles his family’s history in the U.S. as it transitions from immigrants to first-, second-, and third-generation Mexican Americans. He explores the complexities of identity and assimilation at the intersection of race, language, class, and labor. yáñez-lazcano is Assistant Professor, Photo/Media + New Genres in the University of Washington Art Department.

Valeria Haven Espinal (they/them) is an artist and non-binary human whose work focuses on expressing multitudes. Their orientation around microscopy as inspiring a study of artistic research confronts assumed roles and assignments, while giving tools and liminal identities the space to become more. Val is currently the President and Research Director of Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA).

Anna Marandi
As daily life on this planet grows ever more uncertain and perilous for its residents, Anna Marandi has found her own fountain of youth by embracing art, dance - and most importantly - play as a way to cope and shine ever brightly during dark times. She believes strongly that we who are able must counteract this darkness with levity, love, and authentic expression. Anna is an Iranian-American-Canadian contact improvisation and house/freestyle dancer based in Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC.

Arshia Batra
Arshia Batra (they/them) is a queer Indian photographer and performance artist based in Seattle. Attending to senses, memories, and emotions, they explore new intimacies and stories by recontextualizing existing narratives and materials, and reorienting their body in familiar spaces. They are interested in embodied ways of knowing, insurgent archives, self-expression in the queer South Asian diaspora, the suturing of queer and cultural pride, and relationships with place.

Fox Whitney
Fox Whitney is a multi-disciplinary artist working at the intersection of dance, film, music and visual art. His projects center his mixed Black, queer, and transgender POV. In 2012, he founded Gender Tender, a QT interdisciplinary performance project, and in 2023 he started Light Aloud, a transfuturist psych band named after a Gender Tender score inspired by a photo of police pushing a protester to the ground during the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Fox’s work has been commissioned and produced by the Henry Art Gallery, On the Boards, Washington Ensemble Theater, Risk/Reward and Velocity Dance Center. Light Aloud has performed at Trans Pride Seattle, Capitol Hill Block Party, and the Seattle Art Fair- Fox's new performance experiment LOOK/OUT premieres May 2027 at 12th Ave Arts. www.foxwhitney.com
