Strange Garden
Twelve artists have been invited to plant something in a strange garden where we will begin a conversation about the case for beauty in art. A garden is a place between culture and nature, cultivated for contemplation or sustenance or beauty, 'natural' yet conditioned, intentional or accidental, grown from invasive or native species. The garden raises old questions about of ‘landscape art’ of ‘natural beauty’ of perception, the relation between beauty in art and beauty in nature. .
Artist voice
“the garden... introduced a new kind of truth to nature or naturalness... we see nature ... with eyes schooled by art...”
Gadamer, “The Relevance of the Beautiful”
